The First Profession!

No, it was not prostitution. Many say that prostitution is the oldest profession however, being a groundskeeper is the oldest profession according to Genesis.

15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Genesis 2:15

Adam was created for the sole purpose of tilling the ground of God’s newly created world. With this new job Adam had one commandment. DO NOT EAT FROM THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL. He only had ONE job and he screwed that up! Needless to say we all know what happens next and he was fired from that job. And, in retrospect being a groundskeeper of God’s great Earth is the most honorable job you can have. Wouldn’t you agree?

This was his assignment from God. How many of us have screwed up our assignments from God? Adam’s disobedience in his assignment led to unforseen consequences for the entire human race. Is your disobedience by not following your assignment affecting those around you? Do as God commanded till the ground and dress and keep your assignment. Stay blessed!

Genesis Chapter 2: Man is a Ball of Energy

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul

Genesis 2:7

The definition of soul is the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal. This somehow seems to suggest that humans are actually immortal and that we only physically die but our consciousness somehow remains in the universe. This could possibly explain spiritual beings or ghosts as some may call it. Human beings are made up of energy and we know energy can transfer from one form to another. Energy is defined as the strength and vitality required for sustained physical or mental activity. When we are born our energy transfers from our mental state to our physical state. When we die we are reversed back into our mental state.

As we are made of energy it is said that Stars that go supernova are responsible for creating many of the elements of the periodic table, including those that make up the human body. Which begs the question are we stars when we are born and when we die?

And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. Gen 2:5

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. Gen 2:15

Interestingly enough Scientists define energy as the ability to do work. Modern civilization is possible because people have learned how to change energy from one form to another and then use it to do work. Is this not what God did after he created the Earth? He took one form of energy spiritual energy or mental consciousness and changed it to physical energy or a living soul so that it may do work which was to till the ground of God’s new creation. In our spiritual state we were not able to till the ground. However, if you need a physical state to do work then the question that’s left to ask is God a spiritual being as he is oftern referred or a physical being. Did God change his state of Energy to create the Earth?

Genesis Chapter 1: Creation, Dominion and The Word

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

This is how the Bible begins. It lets us know that God created the planet we live on and the “space” surrounding it. I believe scientists refer to this creation as the Big Bang Theory. This first line is important because it explains how we got here. Many times we wonder if there is life or ever was life on other planets. The way the Earth is described in verse 2 seems to depict the description of ohter planets in our solar system. Until God said “Let there be light” and “downloaded” all living things onto the planet for our techies.

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Now according to this verse we are made in God’s likeness. Many have pondered what does God look like. We may not know the features of his face but what we do know is that he has two eyes, ears, one nose and a mouth. We look like our creator/father/mother. In addition, you notice God says “our image”. This implies that God is having a conversation with someone as he is bringing our planet to life. Could this person be “The Word” as stated in John chapter 3:1? “In the beginning was the word and the word was with God”. So we are made in the image of God and his Word. The word is powerful. There is a phrase that when someone needs to trust you…you say all I have is my word. And your word holds more weight than money. The Word represents trust. So The Word is important in our creation and we are a result of The Word which we will explore further on.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

In this verse God blesses us by giving us Dominion over the Earth and the power to subdue it. That is powerful. If you think about the past creatures that have lived on this Earth and the creatures that live now that are more ferocious than human beings how are we able to tame them. It’s because of God’s blessing that we are able to domesticate animals that seem they shouldn’t be domesticated otherwise. What a blessing this definitely has to be in the top ten of blessings!!

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

In the last two verses of Genesis chapter 1 God says that he has given all living creatures the green herb for meat and for humans the fruit of all trees. Does this suggests that we should be vegetarians? It may explain why meat takes so long to digest because God never intended for us to consume this originally. It also may explain why we get colon cancer as some studies suggest those whose diets are high in red meats tend to get this type of cancer. Food for thought…no pun intended.
